Common questions about Calgary's lake communities
Which Calgary communities have a private lake?
Nine communities give residents private lake access. In the southeast: Mahogany, Auburn Bay, Lake Bonavista, McKenzie Lake, Lake Chaparral, Lake Sundance and Lake Midnapore. Arbour Lake is the northwest option and Coral Springs is the northeast one. Each lake is owned and run by a residents association, not the city.
Do you have to live in the community to use the lake?
Yes. The lakes are residents-only, and access usually comes with a residents association fee that every homeowner in the community pays. The public cannot simply walk in. That fee covers the beach, the clubhouse, lifeguards in summer, and skating in winter.
How much do homes in Calgary's lake communities cost?
It spans a wide range, from the most affordable lakes like Arbour Lake and Midnapore up to the premium end in Lake Bonavista, with everything in between. Prices move with the market, so for current average sold prices in each community see the market report.
